Our Story:

Fashion with Purpose

A sustainable fashion brand, Sarah Tremain features clothing adorned with prints of founder Sarah Culbertson’s mother, Tremain Smith's, artwork, and is dedicated to supporting healing services for survivors of sexual trauma.

Rooted in intergenerational trauma and healing, Sarah Tremain reimagines pain into purpose. Each design uses Tremain Smith’s encaustic paintings as its foundation, transforming them into prints that become functional, beautiful garments. These creations honor the legacy of their shared relationship, blending artistry with resilience to inspire connection and individuality.

This deeply personal vision shapes everything Sarah Tremain does, guiding the brand to foster community, champion sustainability, and support healing. By reworking and upcycling materials, we create intentional garments that celebrate stories and empower individuals. Each piece becomes a testament to courage, offering a platform for creative expression and transformation.

With some purchases, customers can support survivors with a portion of proceeds benefiting WOAR: Philadelphia Center Against Sexual Violence. With other purchases, there’s an option to contribute to healing services like trauma-informed yoga and therapy by donating directly to Sarah Tremain as we build a way to redistribute it directly to those people who supply those services so someone can experience a session. Together, we’re creating a meaningful impact—empowering survivors and fostering a culture of resilience.

At Sarah Tremain, fashion becomes a bridge between art and advocacy. Each garment is more than clothing—it’s a story of strength, healing, and hope. Join us in building a world where creativity and compassion transform lives.

Sarah Tremain Culbertson

Fashion Designer & Founder of Sarah Tremain

Sarah Culbertson is the visionary behind Sarah Tremain, a sustainable fashion brand that merges artistry, individuality, and social impact. With over a decade of experience in the fashion industry and a Bachelor of Fine Arts in Fashion Design from Columbia College Chicago, Sarah has built her brand on the principles of creativity, environmental responsibility, and empowerment.

Inspired by her mother, Tremain Smith—a prominent encaustic artist—Sarah incorporates her mother's artwork into her designs, transforming these pieces into unique prints for sustainable garments and accessories. Her collections celebrate the transformative power of clothing as self-expression and healing, reflecting her passion for blending art and fashion in a meaningful way.

Drawing on her experiences, Sarah infuses cultural and emotional influences into her designs, creating one-of-a-kind pieces that resonate with a global audience.

Beyond design, Sarah is committed to fostering inclusivity, community, and healing through sustainable practices, including repurposing and upcycling garments, reducing waste, and offering accessible services such as mending and alterations.

Through Sarah Tremain, Sarah also champions causes close to her heart, including sexual violence awareness and healing. The brand offers ways for customers to donate to organizations and services supporting survivors, demonstrating her belief in fashion as a platform for advocacy and change.

Sarah’s entrepreneurial journey is grounded in her mission to make sustainable fashion accessible while inspiring creativity and connection. From custom garments to hosting mending workshops, she continues to redefine what it means to create with purpose, encouraging others to see fashion not just as clothing, but as a force for good.
